Match Review – ECW Extreme Elimination Chamber

Personally I love the elimination chamber its one of my favourite “gimmick” matches and I just think it’s brilliant. The chamber is described as a hardcore structure so surely mixing the ‘land of extreme’ with the elimination chamber and then including weapons sounds like a hardcore dream right ???? Well , not exactly. The issue with the match as I will showcase is the talent and story lines involved not really the match itself , there is good reason ECW never got its own PPV ever again .

The match was apart of  December to Dismember 2006 a prominently ECW PPV that was a fairly dull card from the start but maybe this match could turn things around .The superstars involved are CM Punk , Bobby Lashley , Test , Big Show , RVD and Sabu . A pretty stacked list featuring ECW legends , hot new talent and the Big Show.

Before the match we get a Paul Heyman promo saying how ECW is better than WWE and the amount of boos is through the roof. Now on the previous chapter I said Sabu is in the match , well not exactly… Heyman announces Sabu has lost his chance and how he hates ECW legends like RVD and how great the Big Show is .

So Big Show , Lashley , Test and Punk are in the pods whilst RVD and Sabu’s replacement Hardcore Holly start the match.

About a minute the action spills the one of the chamber steel floor sections and they fight back and forth using the chamber as a weapon. Holly awkwardly dives from the top rope straight to RVD’s boot shortly followed by rolling thunder.

First entrant is CM Punk with a chair he fires in with a chair shot and then a springboard clothesline , from there he goes back and forth with little spots with RVD. Most notable is Punk smashing RVD through a chair wedged between turnbuckles , out of nowhere though Holly grabs Punk and in a power bomb position swings punk in to chain wall with a very nasty noise  . Also RVD’s face is covered in blood at this point .

Entrant number 2 is Test , who has a crowbar. He goes round hitting everyone and wedging crowbar in RVD’s head. A five star frog splash to Punk and he is then eliminated shortly after a massive boot to Holly’s head and Test eliminates Hardcore Holly.

RVD attacks Test and tries to climb up one of the pods , however Big Show grabs him through the chains on the roof of the pod. Test takes advantage and starts hammering RVD with a chair till he falls off the pod , Test then climbs up and then hit a big elbow drop from the pod to eliminate RVD.

The match is great so far so what could go wrong ? Well from this point strange ECW storylines come in to play .

So at this point Lashleys pod is selected to open but Heymans’s enforces grab the ref and keep the pod closed trapping Lashley whilst Test taunts him on the outside. Lashley uses the table in his pod the break the chains above him to enter the match and hits a big clothesline from the top to Test. He then smashes Test through the pod and starts dominating the match.

A big Lashley spear eliminates Test , Lashley throws a table at Big Show’s pod and sits in the ring waiting for Show to enter. Big Show enters with a barbed wire baseball bat and Lashley stands with a chair . This is in the midst of Big Shows 500 pounds run and you can really tell with how slow he moves about . Also he takes a swing at Lashley with the bat but Lashley clearly sells it too early and the camera gets a beautiful botch in perfect frame.

Show gets the bat stuck in the wall and takes big hits from Lashley and then gets thrown threw another pod. For those counting Lashley has broken 3 pods so far by throwing people them. Show fights back and goes for choke slam in middle ring which Lashley counters with a DDT.

Big Show goes for a big powerslam which Lashley counters , follows with a spear and then pins the big show and takes the title. Bobby Lashley has done he overcame Heyman and won the title what a great moment for a young career , unfortunately then we got more Lashley every week on ECW and soon people realised there’s a reason he is on ECW not SmackDown or RAW and had a lot practise to come.

Final Thoughts:

Overall this match is like a train wreck horrible but you still watch anyway. Big Show being horribly overweight , Punk getting eliminated first , Test’s quite loud and obvious spot calling  , Hardcore Holly just being a bit bland , and RVD probably being stoned throughout (you know its true) . In addition I pretty much ignored the commentary mainly because its not that good , and when I mean not good I mean Tazz is on commentary.

My Name is Connor and  I hope you enjoyed this article about one match wrestling fans forget about , for quite good reason as well .
